Women's Cross Country To Compete at Great Lakes Regional

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's cross country team heads to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Calvin University for the 2019 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday.

The Race: The six-kilometer race will take place at the Calvin Cross Country Course and is slated to begin at 12:15 p.m. A map and video of the course can be found by visiting the links above.

The Teams: All NCAA Division III institutions from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan will compete in the meet.

The Coach: Ron Combs is in his 24th season as head cross country coach at Wilmington College. A 1993 graduate of Wilmington, Combs was a member of the only cross country team to win a conference title in school history. Also the head track & field coach at the College, Combs led the Fightin' Quakers to two top-10 finishes nationally with a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships and a seventh place mark at the 2004 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Runners: The last six-kilometer race for the Quakers was the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship on Nov. 2. A pair of freshman, Milena Wahl and Sydney Yontz, were the Fightin' Quakers' top two finishers. Wahl placed 26th with a time of 24:17.6 while Sydney Yontz was 31st, crossing the finish line in 24:27.6. Sophomore Katie Hughes (24:31.0) finished right behind her teammate.

Recent History: In 2018, Wilmington did place score as a team at the regional meet. Savannah Rhodes was the top finisher with a time of 24:45.8.
