WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College wrestling team moves on to its second OAC contest of the season on Sunday.
The Schedule: Wilmington heads to Berea, Ohio for a 1 p.m. contest at Baldwin Wallace University this Sunday, Jan. 31. The Fightin' Quakers will face host Baldwin Wallace in the first meet of the day.
The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Walllace (BW). The Fightin' Quakers enter their second meet of the season after losing to both ONU and Heidelberg University this past Sunday. Baldwin Wallace comes in after two impressive wins over both Otterbein University and John Carroll University while ONU split a pair of duals last weekend.
The Coaches: Justin Khin enters his third season as the Head Coach for the Quakers. Kihn comes to Wilmington after graduating and being an assistant coach at Heidelberg University. As an athlete, Khin was Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Wrestler of the Year his senior year, as well as Academic All-American and Division III All-American. He finished fourth nationally (in the 141 weight class) at the NCAA Championships. Jamie Gibbs enters his 10th season with BW. His team reached the NCAA Division III National Tournament back in the 2019-2020 season, after going 14-3 and being ranked as high as No. 6 in the country. He is 35-12 in the OAC over the past five years.
The Players: The Fightin' Quakers return two upperclassmen from a year ago. Patrick Kelley (165-pound weight class), Junior from Kettering, Ohio, Kettering Fairmont High School, and Adrian Salamone (157-pound weight class), Sophomore from Bainbridge, Ohio, Paint Valley High School. Kihn also adds five other freshmen for the weekend. Jack Probus (133-pound weight class), Jacob Scoville (141-pound weight class), Avery Bair (165-pound weight class), Elijah Wood (174-pound weight class), Skyler Cowgill (184-pound weight class), Shadrach Brausch (285-pound weight class). Wilmington posted two victories last weekend as Probus won a 8-4 decision in the 133 class, and Brausch, a 9-5 decision in the 285 weight class, both over Heidelberg. The Yellow Jackets moved Stanley Bleich from the 149-wight class last season to the 157-pound class this year. Bliech is coming off a 12-4 major decision win and a 3-1 decision over two top-10, nationally-ranked OAC opponents.
COVID-19 Precautions: The OAC Presidents made the difficult decision to not allow any fans at athletic contests until at least March 1.
