Campbell named preseason All-American

Wilmington College junior Mackenzie Campbell has earned preseason All-American honors by DIII News, the organization announced today (October 6, 2017).

Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) returns for her junior season needing 169 points to become the 15th player in school history to eclipse the 1000-point barrier. She was a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection last season, and is only the second Wilmington sophomore to earn such recognition.

"Mackenzie has really improved each of the last two years, and she has put in the work to make sure that happens again this year," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "She is very deserving of this honor based on her first two years, but she knows that team success will help her win honors like this when it really counts."

She was second in the conference in scoring with 15.9 points per game. Her 50.3 percent accuracy from the field was tops amongst OAC guards and fourth in the league overall. Campbell was second on the team with 5.9 rebounds and added 1.7 assists per game.

Wilmington kicks off the 2017-18 season, hosting Mary Baldwin in the opening game of the Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament.
