WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's cross country team heads to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Calvin University for the 2019 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday.

The Race: The eight kilometer race will take place at the Calvin Cross Country Course and is slated to begin at 11 a.m. A map and video of the course can be found by visiting the links above.

The Teams: All NCAA Division III institutions from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan will compete in the meet.

The Coach: Ron Combs is in his 24th season as head cross country coach at Wilmington College. A 1993 graduate of Wilmington, Combs was a member of the only cross country team to win a conference title in school history. Also the head track & field coach at the College, Combs led the Fightin' Quakers to two top-10 finishes nationally with a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships and a seventh place mark at the 2004 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Runners: The last eight kilometer race for the Quakers was the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship where both Evan Whitaker and Simon Heys earned Second Team All-OAC honors. Whitaker, the OAC Freshman of the Year in 2018, placed 13th with a time of 26:19.9 while Heys finished two spots behind his teammate, crossing the finish line in 26:21.7.

Recent History: In 2018, Wilmington finished 22nd at the regional meet in Shelbyville, Indiana. Cameron Phelps was the Fightin' Quakers' top finisher, completing the course in 26:39.9 for a 79th-place finish. Evan Whitaker placed 128th with a time of 27:15.0.
