(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Wilmington College football team fell at home in Williams Stadium Saturday afternoon to the Marietta College Pioneers, 45-15. They are now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Quakers struck first, with Zac Schmidt returning an interception at the Marietta 47-yard line down to the Pioneer 23, before an unsportmanlike conduct penalty set the Quakers up at the 13-yard line. It took only one play for Derek Larimer to find Bryan Kearse for a touchdown, before a successful two-point conversion pass to Nehemiah Jenkins made the score 8-0 with 11:21 remaining in the first quarter.
The Pioneers would find the endzone four times before the end of the half, however, taking a 28-8 lead into the locker room. The Quakers had a look for a field goal, but missed the attempt late in the first half.
Wilmington drove the ball to the Marietta 29 to start the second half, but a fumble would give the ball back to the Pioneers. The Quakers would score one more time in the game in their final drive. The drive started at their own 33 yard line, and lasted 17 plays, with Larimer finding Jayv'n Hill in the back of the endzone for the touchdown, before the extra point made it a final score of 45-15.
