AUSTIN, TX – For the second consecutive year, David Henry has earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.

Henry (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington), who earned first team honors last season, was named second team 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American, the organization announced today (November 29, 2016). The team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

He is the first two-time CoSIDA football selection in school history, and just the second two-time selection in school history. Henry joins women's basketball player Megan Woodruff, who earned the honor in 2002 and 2003.

The senior finished the year with 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks after suffering a season-ending injury in week 5.

Henry is one of nine individuals that are repeat selections on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® football teams, including two who repeated as first-team selections. Four first-team selections this year were second-team selections last year, two second-team selections were first-team selections last year, and one first-teamer was a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America® team selection in 2014.

All first-team Academic All-District winners, eight districts total, moved to the national ballot. The national team is voted on by members of CoSIDA's Academic All-America Committee. 

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.

Wilmington Director of Athletic Communications Jayson Ameer Rasheed has served on CoSIDA's Academic All-America national committee since 2009.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
