(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College athletics department announced today the hiring of Chyann Martin as the Quakers new Head Cheer Coach. Martin is a Wilmington College graduate, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work in May of 2021.
Chyann was a four-year member of the Wilmington College cheer program and was the captain during her time as a Quaker. After graduating from Wilmington, Martin got a Master of Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University in December of 2022 and she is a licensed social worker.
"WC will always be a place I call home," said Martin. "I am extremely excited to come back as a coach!"
Chyann held several jobs in the social work field during her time at Wilmington. She was an intern at the Child Advocacy Center of Warren County, an ongoing caseworker at Greene County Children Services, and a floating teacher at Bridgeway Academy. Similarities from the three jobs included maintaining a safe environment for students and families, creating case, behavior, and medical plans, and working closely with clients, families, and students.
Martin worked at Star House as an intern in 2022 where she worked with homeless youth, assisted case managers in finding resources and providing services, among other tasks. She is currently a Mental Health Clinician at Bridgeway Academy.
She takes over a program that had nine student-athletes last season.
