Advancement & Athletics Partnership Helps Provide High Definition Video Streaming

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College department of athletics has provided free, high definition live streams of athletic events for viewers for the past several years. BoxCast, based in Ohio, is the streaming video of both Wilmington athletics as well as the rest of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member institutions. Because all 10 schools use the same platform, the OAC TV application is available for download on a device to view broadcasts from the entire conference.

Live streaming in high definition is not a free service, but one WC chooses to pay for.

"Providing high quality video broadcasts of athletic events is something that, when the facility allows, is essential in today's world of intercollegiate athletics," Director of Athletic Communications Mitch Blankespoor, who oversees the department's video streaming, said. "It's our goal to give fans who cannot attend our home contests in person an opportunity to watch as many events as possible wherever they may be."

In order to make this happen, enter the office of advancement. A long-standing ally of the department of athletics, the WC advancement office chips in financially to make high definition video streams available to all fans at no additional cost to them. This is one of several things, including but not limited to: Homecoming Weekend, the Athletics Hall of Fame brunch, special ceremonies such as the celebration of life for former Head Football Coach Bill Ramseyer, that advancement and athletics collaborate on.

"We are honored to support the efforts to provide access to Figthin' Quaker sporting events to all WC alumni across the globe," Vice President for Advancement Joe Bull said. "This is a great way for alumni both far and not so far to remain connected to their alma mater."
