Women's Basketball Opens OAC Tournament With Muskingum on Monday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team begins its 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament by hosting Muskingum University for a 7 p.m. contest at Fred Raizk Arena on Monday evening.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Fightin' Quakers finished their 2020-21 season with an even 6-6 overall record that put them in a tie for fifth place. Wilmington is coming off a sweep of Heidelberg University over the weekend. Muskingum enters the game with a 1-9 regular season mark having fell in two games to the University of Mount Union.

The Coaches: Wilmington's interim head coach for the season, has been the program's top assistant coach for the last two years. She's also no stranger to the OAC, having graduated from Otterbein University and assisted at the University of Mount Union, as well as being familiar with an interim role having held that title at Earlham College. Erin Eaton is in her second season as Muskingum's head coach. She too is familiar with the OAC having worked as an assistant coach at Baldwin Wallace University in the past.

The Players: Wilmington is led in scoring by the Binkley twins as McKayla averages 18.0 points per game and Hannah Binkley scores 11.3 points per contest. McKayla Binkley is also the team's leading rebounder at 6.3 boards per 40 minutes while Kennedy Lewis and Zahrya Bailey combine to dish out nearly six assists per game. Tanner Wirth and Taylor DeMassimo both score nearly 10 points per game for the Muskies.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 72.4, Muskingum 64.8; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 74.3, Muskingum 85.4; field goal percentage – Wilmington 39.2, Muskingum 37.1; three-point percentage – Wilmington 28.6, Muskingum 29.7; free throw percentage – Wilmington 67.8, Muskingum 63.4; rebounds per game – Wilmington 42.8, Muskingum 36.0; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.74, Muskingum 0.57.

OAC Tournament History: Wilmington has a 25-16 program record in the OAC Tournament including 4-0 in first-round games. Additionally, the Quakers are 3-0 against the Muskies in the postseason.

COVID-19 Precautions: The OAC Presidents made the difficult decision to not allow any fans at athletic contests until at least March 5.
