Campbell named Freshman All-American

Wilmington College freshman basketball player Mackenzie Campbell has been honored by Women's DIII News, the organization announced today (March 16, 2016).

Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) was named to the Freshman All-American Team after a solid inaugural collegiate season.

"Mackenzie came in from day one and has done what we have asked her to do," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "She has had the respect of her teammates from day one.

"We recruited her as a post player, but when she got here she said she would like to play on the wing," Scheve continued. "It didn't take long for her to convince us that she would be very solid at that position, and that is where she played.  She became our best perimeter defender, best perimeter rebounder, and eventually our leading scorer.  She is very deserving of this award, and I am really happy for her."

The Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year was third in the OAC in scoring with 14.9 points per game, while shooting 49.5 percent from the field. Her shooting percentage led all perimeter players in the league, and was third overall.

She finished with 401 points, which are the most by any Wilmington freshman in the school's NCAA-era. Campbell led all OAC freshmen, and was second on the team, with 6.4 rebounds.
