Quakers Grounded by Flying Dutchmen Friday Night in Michigan

(Holland, Mich.) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team lost their second game of the season Friday night at Hope College, 92-68, at DeVos Fieldhouse on DeVette-VanWieren Court.

The Quakers drop to 4-2 overall this season. An 18-point halftime deficit doomed Wilmington as it proved to large to come back from in the loss. They will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Calvin University at 2:00 P.M.

The Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a 16-3 lead less than seven minutes into the game, with the Quakers lone points coming off a three-pointer from freshman Ben Golan. Hope would continue to hold a steady lead, taking a 30-17 advantage with 6:38 to play in the first half. They would eventually take a 47-29 lead into the locker room.

The Quakers wouldn't threat in the second half as the Flying Dutchmen would never lead by less than 18 points on the way to victory.

  • Senior Matthew Dugue led the Quakers with 12 points, his third game this season scoring in double-digits.
  • Sophomore Elijah Cathey scored 11 points for his second game this season in double-digits.
  • Junior Gavin Heimlich led the team with four rebounds, and junior Domenic Farley had the team-lead with three assists.
  • Farley and junior Obed Achirem each tied for the game-high of two steals.
  • Ben Golan, Dugue, and junior Rashid Chisholm each had one block in the contest.
  • The Quakers as a team made a season-high 20 free throws.
