Quakers Host Capital Comets in Homecoming Game Under the Lights

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team hosts the Capital Comets on Saturday, September 23. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm and at halftime there will be a presentation honoring our recent Hall of Fame inductees as well as a Homecoming Court ceremony. Family friendly activities will be available across campus all day starting at 11:00, we hope to see you there!!

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers (2-1, 1-1) are riding high after more than doubling up Otterbein, 47-21. Capital (0-3, 0-2) has scored 35 twice but have fallen just short against Denison and Muskingum. 

The Coaches: Corey Fillipovich, who has served as Wilmington's defensive coordinator for the previous four seasons, enters his second full season as head coach in 2023. The former OAC Assistant Coach of the Year, he stepped in to lead the program through the final four games of the 2021 fall campaign and has tallied multiple conference victories each of his seasons leading the program. Brian Foos, a native of Tiffin, Ohio, will return to Central Ohio and the Ohio Athletic Conference for a second time after spending the last two years building the football program at Madonna University (Mich.).

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers are playing well behind a strong rushing attack led by Nehemiah Jenkins and Ben Hobbs. Capital will look to put together a few defensive stops as they average allowing 43 points a game. 

The Offenses: Quarterback Derek Larimer has completed 42-82 passing attempts for 709 yards and 11 touchdowns to just three interceptions. Nehemiah Jenkins has improved on his freshman campaign and in three games has rushed for 383 total yards with three touchdowns. Ben Hobbs has 59 rushing attempts and has gained 294 yards to go along with three touchdowns of his own. Lathan Jones has been electric as the leading wide reciever with 15 receptions for 425 yards and seven touchdowns. Kaleb Easley has played offense and defense this year and has made an impact on both sides of the ball with eight receptions and two touchdowns.

The Defenses: Joey Weikel leads the way for the Quakers with 27 tackles and four tackles for loss. Zac Schmidt and Jake Sheriff have combined for 44 tackles on the season. Nathan Nemeth is a huge playmaker on defense with two forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Series History: Wilmington is 5-5 in it's previous 10 games against the Capital Comets. The Quakers have defeated Capital four straight times.
