WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team will put its undefeated record on the line on Friday when Heidelberg University comes to Williams Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Fightin' Quakers are 2-0 after a second 90-plus yard drive in the final minutes yielded a 17-10 road win at Otterbein University. The Student Princes, which had a bye in week one, are 1-0 after a convincing 66-13 triumph over Capital University.
The Coaches: Bryan Moore, a 1999 graduate of Hiram College, begins his fourth season leading Wilmington's football program. Moore began instilling his vision on the program having brought in three large freshman classes. He led the Quakers to the program's best record in over a decade in 2019. Previously, Moore spent time at both Bluffton University and Heidelberg. Scott Donaldson, a 2004 graduate of SUNY-Brockport, is in his 17th season on the Heidelberg staff. Formerly the defensive coordinator, Donaldson has been the head coach since 2016.
The Offenses: Kyle Barrett, the OAC's Offensive Player of the Week from week No. 1, averages over 300 yards through the air as Wilmington's third-year starting quarterback. A trio of Quakers - Itika Wynn Jr., Ace Taylor and Lathan Jones - have all caught more than half a dozen passes and have over 100 yards receiving. Both Wynn Jr. and Jones have two touchdown passes. Both Malik Sims and Yvan Tientcheu have rushed 21 times for over 100 yards. Drew Sims threw for 349 yards and six touchdowns in Heidelberg's win over Capital. Maceo Matthews hauled in 208 of those yards to go along with three touchdowns. The Berg's rushinga attack was led by Branden Short and Jace Grossman with 14 carries each.
The Defenses: A quintet of Quakers - Tavion Bryant, Xzerious Stinnett, Tre'Quez Parks, Jarod Lee and Jalaun Covington - have double-digit tackles on the season. Bryant and Brandon Weaver have a team-best 3.5 tackles for loss each while Covington and Weaver have two sacks each. Bryant and Lee both recorded interceptions, both coming in the second half, against Otterbein. Zachary Blackiston has 10 tackles and one sack to lead the Student Princes' defense.
