WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team looks to make it four consecutive wins over Columbus schools when it travels to Otterbein University for a 7 p.m. Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest on Friday evening.
The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers are 1-0 on the young 2021 spring season having defeated Capital University 26-21 in come-from-behind fashion on Friday. The Cardinals enter the game with an 0-1 record having fallen 17-7 at Ohio Northern University.
The Coaches: Bryan Moore, a 1999 graduate of Hiram College, begins his fourth season leading Wilmington's football program. Moore began instilling his vision on the program having brought in three large freshman classes. He led the Quakers to the program's best record in over a decade in 2019. Previously, Moore spent time at both Bluffton University and Heidelberg. Tim Doup enters his 18th season on the coaching staff of his alma mater including the ninth as the program's head coach. He's been honored as OAC Coach of the Year twice.
The Offenses: Wilmington is led by senior and three-year starter Kyle Barrett who threw for 379 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening win. Barrett had two wide receivers – Ace Taylor and Lathan Jones – catch at least five passes for over 100 yards while Itika Wynn Jr. hauled in two touchdowns including the game-winner in the final minute. The Quakers' offensive line feature four returning starters, which opened holes for running backs to rush for 171 yards against Capital. For Otterbein, Logan Pharmer threw for 117 yards against Ohio Northern while Fred Hargrove and Jordan Bost-Floyd rushed over a dozen times each and combined for 131 yards on the ground.
The Defenses: A trio of Quakers – Xzerious Stinnett, Tavion Bryant and Jalaun Covington – all had at least seven tackles in the win over Capital. Covington had two sacks while Stinnett, Jarod Lee and Brandon Weaver all had one sack each. Two Cardinals – Greg Nolder and Jacob Tiell – tallied double digits in tackles while Caleb Rice broke up two passes.
