@DubC_LQB Preview: Otterbein Cardinals

The Wilmington College women's basketball team concludes the first half of the Ohio Athletic Conference season with a road meeting with Otterbein 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

SERIES: Wilmington leads the series, 25-11, and has won six of the last eight games. However, the Cardinals did sweep the season series last season.

THE LAST MEETING: The Wilmington College women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss as Otterbein nailed two free throws with two seconds left to steal the 75-74 win in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court on February 10.

With the game clock ticking away, the Otterbein player jumped toward the basket and was rewarded with the foul call. She made two of three free throws to seal the win.

Otterbein's final three points came from the free throw line on back-to-back possessions, and each time they allowed the Cardinals to take the lead. They also sent the game into overtime with two fourth-quarter free throws with 20 seconds remaining.

Brittaney Jefferson and Mackenzie Campbell scored 17 points each with Jefferson pulling down six rebounds. Ellie Kivell added 11 points and Emily Smith finished with nine points and seven boards. Mary Moyer pulled down a team-high nine rebound

MEET THE CARDINALS: Otterbein (7-8 overall, 3-5 OAC) comes into the game following a 66-45 loss to league-leading Ohio Northern. Junior Kiersten Taylor and sophomore Dani Kissel combined to score 20 of the team's 45 points.

Kissel leads four Otterbein double-figure scorers on the season with 14.8 points per game. She is currently fifth in the OAC in scoring. Taylor is second on the team with 12.9 points and leads the team with 7.9 rebounds.

Junior Abby Miduri adds 11.4 points and sophomore Ali Cartnal with 10.4. The pair combines to attempt 69 percent (175 of 225) of the team's three-pointers.

SECOND TO NONE: Heading into the final game of the first half of the Ohio Athletic Conference season, Wilmington holds a one-game lead over Baldwin Wallace for second place in the OAC standings. The Fightin' Quakers are two games behind #10 and unbeaten Ohio Northern.

PRESEASON POLL: Wilmington was picked to finish third in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason poll behind reigning OAC regular season champion Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace.

1,000 POINTS: Senior Brittaney Jefferson is the 14th player in school history to reach 1,000 points, and the first since Kortney Kin achieved the feat in 2010.

CAMPBELL'S SOUP: Sophomore Mackenzie Campbell leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 15.1 points per game. Campbell has scored at least 10 points in all but one game this season. She is only WC player averaging double figures.

She is third in the league, and the top guard, making 50.8 percent of her shots. She is also 66th nationally in the field goal percentage.

PROUD MARY: Senior Mary Moyer leads the OAC in rebounding with 9.2 boards, including a career-high 18 rebounds earlier this season. She has four double-doubles this season and 11 in her career.

She is 45th nationally in defensive rebounding and 92nd in rebounds. Moyer has five double-figure rebounding efforts this year.

IT'S A COLE WORLD: Senior Ja'Cole Tabor comes off the bench to provide the Fightin' Quakers with whatever is needed. A natural wing, Tabor has played all five positions this season.  She tallied a career-high 14 points in the win over Baldwin Wallace, and has reached double figures in four of the last five games. Coming into the season, Tabor had scored at least 10 points once in her career.

FOURS WILD: Wilmington College is tied for fourth with John Carroll, scoring 67.5 points per game, and fourth in scoring defense – allowing 60.5 points per game.
