Brian Dykhuizen

Brian Dykuizen is currently in his 11th year as the head athletic trainer at Wilmington College in 2023-24.

He coordinates the athletic training department's oversight of coverage for WC's varsity sports while also serving as the main athletic trainer for the football, cheerleading, swimming, equestrian and softball programs. Dykuizen has been heavily involved in the concussion study, which the College was selected as one of 30 schools in 2016. The study, an NCAA and United States Department of Defense initiative, gives financial resources to institutions to gather data on the effects of concussions on student-athletes.

Another one of Dykhuizen's duties is overseeing Wilmington's state-of-the-art athletic training facility, the Center for Sport Sciences. Alongside the other athletic trainers, Dykhuizen coordinates treatment of all WC student-athletes as well as team usage of the facility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served on the College's COVID Respond Team as well as developed health and safety protocols that allowed for safe practice and competition.

Prior to Wilmington, Dykuizen served as head athletic trainer at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, for four years. He also taught classes in Hope's athletic training program. Before that, his longest-tenured position to date was an assistant athletic trainer for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2000-2009. Alongside Head Athletic Trainer Paul Sparling, Dykhuizen provided primary care and injury evaluation as well as working with rehabilitation.

Dykuizen also has experience at the high school level having served as both an assistant and head athletic trainer in the Lakota High School system.

A native of Cincinnati, Dykuizen earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1993 and a master's degree from Iowa State University in 1995. He resides in Lebanon with his wife Jill and daughters Katie and Sarah.
