Spirk honored by OCSA

COLUMBUS – Wilmington College women's soccer coach Steve Spirk was honored recently by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association at a Columbus Crew game.

Spirk was one of two coaches to the receive the OCSA Honor Award for long-term service and achievement. The award is the association's highest award. He has been the OCSA Women's Division III All-Ohio Selection Chair for the last 15 years.

A 1992 Wilmington College Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Spirk has earned the respect of his coaching peers, both regionally and across the nation. He was the Association of Mideast Colleges Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1999 and the OAC Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2003. He was named the Mideast Region Coach of the Year and finalist for National Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1996.

His teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament six times, including three appearances in the Sweet 16.

Spirk enters the 2017 six victories away from 300 career wins, and has a career record of 294-156-34 in his 24 years at the helm of the Fightin' Quakers.
