The Wilmington College women's soccer team lost its third straight game, falling to Otterbein, 2-0, Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

Otterbein took advantage of two set pieces to mount its scoring. The Cardinals scored off a corner kick in the 25th minute and then with a free kick in the 28th minute.

"(Otterbein) is a team that tries to get corner kicks and free kicks, and we knew that going in," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "The first one, I don't think was able to be saved; just a great corner kick into the upper 90. You can't give up corner kicks when you know they are good at them. The second one was a free kick that we didn't defend well. Two set pieces beat us today. I can't fault our effort, but we have to be more dangerous offensively."

The Cardinals recorded eight of their nine corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.

Holding onto a 2-nil lead, OC locked down on the Wilmington offense in the second half – holding the Fightin' Quakers to just three shots – none of which were on goal.

Wilmington has been held to just one goal total in the last four games.

"I think we have to play better as a unit," said Spirk. If we can get that going in the next five games then we have a chance."

Senior Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg Clay) had both of Wilmington's shots on goal as the team finished with nine shots total.

Junior Ana Hosler (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) recorded two saves on four shots.

Wilmington (5-4-3 overall, 0-3-1 OAC) looks for its first OAC victory 7 p.m. Saturday when the Fightin' Quakers host Marietta.
