Pre-Nationals Victory Earns Heys OAC and USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week Honors

USTFCCCA Press Release

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – After a weekend that saw him place first out of 377 runners with a time of 24:46.1 at the NCAA DIII Pre-Nationals meet, Quakers senior Simon Heys earned some much-deserved honors Monday afternoon. Not only was he named the OAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, but he was also the first Quaker runner ever to be named the Division III M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week, an award that is presented by the USTFCCCA.

Heys outlasted Williams College’s John Lucey by 1.4 seconds Saturday morning to take home the Pre-Nationals individual title for the second time in his career. His first Pre-Nationals win came in 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. This was the fifth 8k race victory of Heys career as the two-time cross country All-American won his second race of the season.

Heys will look to defend his title on Friday afternoon at the JennaStrong Fall Classic hosted on Wilmington’s campus at 5:15 p.m. Heys has won the individual title the past two seasons.
