WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team continues its quest for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) championship on Tuesday when the Fightin' Quakers hosts Capital University in an OAC tournament quarterfinal starting at 7 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers enter the matchup with a 6-3-0 overall record. The Crusaders are 4-5-0 on the season. The two teams played against each other less than a week ago, where the Crusaders managed to defeat the Fightin' Quakers 3-1.
The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his third year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Alan Yost, a 2006 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, is in his ninth season as Capital's head coach. He's guided the Crusaders to two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.
The Players: Elorm Dogbey leads the Wilmington offense with five goals and four assists for a total of 14 points. Zach Burgmeier, Ian Molftenter and Yusef Muqtadir are the other Quakers to have found the back of the net multiple times. Goalkeeper Felix Maurer, who was named OAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season, has a saving percentage of .706 and has been a part of five shutouts. Jack Francisco and Jack Kossoudji have combined to score seven of Capital's eleven goals on the season.
Series History: Wilmington is 13-11-1 against Capital since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Crusaders have won the last six meetings, however, including 3-1 earlier this season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
OAC Tournament History: Wilmington will be making its ninth appearance in the OAC Tournament since joining the league prior to the 2000 season. The Quakers, who have a 6-6-1 all-time record in the postseason tournament, are making their first appearance since 2012 and the third in the last 15 seasons.
