ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union broke a 1-1 deadlock with a game-winning goal in the 89th minute to earn a 2-1 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) win over the Wilmington College men's soccer team on Sunday.

The Purple Raiders, who hadn't played since the season-opener, scored first as Ryan Sarkisian slipped a pass to Ryland Wickle, who beat Wilmington goalkeeper Felix Maurer, with a shot in the 14th minute. Both teams would take six shots in the first half, but it was the hosts who went into the locker room up a goal.

The Fightin' Quakers answered less than 10 minutes into the second half when the visitors were fouled inside the box. Zach Burgmeier, who was not the penalty kick taker for Wilmington's kick against Muskingum University, converted the penalty kick to tie the game. Both sides traded shots and corner kicks for the remainder of the second half, but as the game looked to be headed into overtime for the third consecutive game between the two schools, Wickle broke free off a pass from Carter Hanock and delivered the game-winner with 1:03 to play.

Both teams took a dozen shots in the game with Maurer taking the loss and making four saves while Mikey Contreras earned the win making six saves. Burgmeier fired four shots on goal for Wilmington while Grant Murray and Brady Shapiro each took two shots. Wickle led the way for Mount Union with both goals on three shots on net.

Wilmington (2-1-0) will host Ohio Northern University on Thursday. Kick-off from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
