Men's Soccer Hosts JCU in Regular Season Finale on Sunday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team concludes the 2021 spring regular season with a matchup against league-leading John Carroll University on Sunday. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers are 6-2-0 on the season after falling 3-1 at Capital University on Thursday. The Blue Streaks are a perfect 7-0-0 after a 2-1 win over Heidelberg University at home on Thursday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his third year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Hector Marinaro, a former professional soccer player, is in his 15th season as John Carroll's head coach. The Blue Streaks have won 179 games during his tenure thus far.

The Players: Elorm Dogbey leads the Wilmington offense with five goals and four assists for a total of 14 points. Zach Burgmeier, Ian Molftenter and Yusef Muqtadir are the other Quakers to have found the back of the net multiple times. Goalkeeper Felix Maurer, who was named OAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season, carries a 0.77 goals against average and has been a part of five shutouts. Benjamin Hryszko and Jared Mattei have both scored three goals for the Blue Streaks. Goalkeeper Connor Robinson has surrendered just two goals on the entire season.

OAC Tournament: Wilmington, which clinched a berth in the OAC Tournament for the first time since 2012 earlier this week, will secure a first the No. 2 seed for the tournament with a victory.

Series History: Wilmington is 5-21-3 against JCU since becoming a member of NCAA Division III in the early 1990s. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
