The Wilmington College men's soccer team allowed four second-half goals in falling to league-leading Otterbein Wednesday, 5-1, in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Junior Benny Spirk (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) was responsible for Wilmington's only goal, connecting on a free kick in the 63rd minute.
• Otterbein took a one-goal lead into halftime on the strength of a tally in the 16th minute.
• The Cardinals struck early in the second half with a marker a shade over one minute into the half. Another goal, 13 minutes later pushed the lead to 3-0.
• The visitors tacked on goals in the 75th and 81st minutes to round out the scoring.
• Wilmington was outshot 24-10 and the Cardinals took all seven of the game's corner kicks.
• Senior goalkeeper Chris Bourque (Batavia, OH/Batavia) finished with eight saves on 11 shots in 73:51 of action, while junior Eli Feuer (Bexley, OH/Bexley) recorded two saves on four shots in 12:13 of action.
• Junior Niklas Martensson (Torna Hallestad, Sweden/NIT) led the team with three shots.

COACHES CORNER

"Very disappointing game and we are very concerned," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "We really beat ourselves tonight against a good team. We made the kind of mistakes you can't make.  They are a good team, very skillful. Our backline really struggled without one of our key players (junior Tommy Logan), and quite frankly, we didn't perform to the level we needed to."

Wilmington (6-6-2 overall, 0-3-1 OAC) welcomes Marietta (9-3-1 overall, 3-1 OAC) to Williams Stadium 7 p.m. Saturday.
