ADA – Junior Niklas Martennson tallied a pair of second-half goals as Wilmington fought back from a 2-nil deficit to earn a tie with Kalamazoo in the third game of the 2017 Ohio Northern Invitational Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It marked the fourth consecutive games Wilmington went down by a pair of goals and the third straight game allowing two first-half goals.
  • Martensson (Torna Hallestad, Sweden / NTI) scored multiple goals for the third time in his career, the first time this season. He was also issued a yellow card and a red card.
  • Martennson scored in the 50th minute off a free kick, and then knotted the game in the 83rd minute.
  • Wilmington played the end of regulation and both overtimes with 10 players. The Hornets launched both shots in the extra sessions.
  • Kalamazoo took the early lead with a goal in the sixth minute and then added another goal in the 21st minute.
  • The two teams combined to be called for 35 fouls with three yellow cards and a red card.
  • The Fightin' Quakers recorded five corners kicks and Kalamazoo had six corner kicks.

  • Senior Chris Bourque (Batavia, OH/Batavia) recorded seven saves on nine shots.

COACHES CORNER

  • "We were not playing particularly well," head coach Bud Lewis said about the first half. "We needed to find a way to get back into the game. The team was resilient, fighting back from being down 2-nil."
  • "Neither team created dangerous opportunities (in overtime)," said Lewis. "I thought it was a fair outcome, score-wise."
