2018-19 Top Moments Playoff

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Throughout the second half of July, the Wilmington College department of athletics encourages all fans to participate in voting on the top moments of the 2018-19 year through social media.

Through select days in July, head-to-head matchup will be posted on Facebook (Wilmington College Athletics) and Twitter (@DubCQuakers) for individuals to vote. Voting for each matchup will last 24 hours. A bracket of matchups can be found in the graphic above.

Below is the list of the top eight athletic accomplishments of last academic year.

Men's Basketball Defeats Two Nationally-Ranked Foes in One Week – The men's basketball team closed out its 2018-19 regular season with home victories over No. 11 Marietta College 68-62 and No. 16 Capital University 67-62 on Senior Night.

Niklas Martensson Has One of the Best Individual Seasons in Men's Soccer's NCAA Era - The men's soccer senior concluded his Fightin' Quaker career with a 37-point, 16-goal season that ranks as one of the best in the program over the last two decades. He earned First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and Third Team All-Great Lakes Region honors.

Isak Alin Earns All-OAC Honors, Breaks Three Program Records at OAC Swimming Championships - The men's swimming freshman took third place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:05.46. Alin also put his name in the record book two more times during the event, swimming the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.77 seconds and the 100-yard individual medley with a mark of 1:57.14. Both breaststroke records, previously held by Jason Keith, stood for two decades.

Volleyball Snaps 59-Match OAC Losing Streak - The volleyball team, which had won just two OAC matches in 18 years in the OAC heading into the season, doubled its conference wins total by winning the final two matches of the year. A four-set victory over Capital University ended the 59-match losing streak dating back to Oct. 8, 2011 and followed that by ending the year victorious at John Carroll University.

Softball Has the Second-Best Season in Program History - The softball team finished its 2019 season with an 18-14 overall record and a 6-12 mark in OAC play. Both are second-best in program history along achieving the second winning season in school history.

Women's Soccer Begins Season 8-2 Including Six-Game Winning Streak - The women's soccer team had one of its best starts to a season in recent memory in 2018. After a 2-2 start, the Quakers rattled off six straight victories including three consecutive road wins and three consecutive shutouts at home.

Evan Whitaker Named OAC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year - The men's cross country freshman finished the OAC Men's Cross Country Championships in 10th place with a time of 26:58.2. The time earned Whitaker Honorable Mentoin All-OAC honors as well as finishing as the fastest freshman in the race.

Gage Bley Becomes First First Team All-OAC Honoree in 15 Years - Baseball senior Gage Bley earned First Team All-OAC honors, marking the first time since 2003 Wilmington has had an individual earn such honor. He went on to receive Second Team All-Mideast Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

 

Honorable Mention: Wilmington wins Quaker Bowl Rivalry with Earlham - Six teams throughout the 2018-19 academic year defeated Earlham to retain the Quaker Bowl for the second consecutive year. Football, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's basketball, men's basketball and men's lacrosse all triumphed.
