The Wilmington College women's basketball continues to struggle on the road, falling to Otterbein Wednesday, 56-52, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Rike Center.

"We haven't been a good road team all year," said Wilmington College head coach Jerry Scheve. "We didn't come ready to play tonight, got behind, and didn't do the things we needed to do. We didn't do the things that we have been doing really well, like boxing out, and it really bit us tonight."

Wilmington falls to 0-7 away from Fred Raizk Arena, and is now 6-10 overall, 3-6 in the OAC.

Freshman Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) scored with 10 seconds remaining to trim the deficit to two to set up a possible comeback. Otterbein hit the first free throw, and missed the second, but the rebound caromed out of bounds, and the Cardinals were given the ball back.

This time, Wilmington wasn't as fortunate as OC made both attempts to seal the game.

"We are going to keep competing," said Scheve. "I like our team. We have come up short in a lot of games this year. We have to keep working to get better, keep looking for the solution and start winning these close games."

It was a game tight throughout with seven lead changes and two ties, and neither team having a lead larger than eight points.

Otterbein made its hay on the glass, outrebounding Wilmington, 50-37, leading to a 19-7 advantage in second-chance points.

Junior Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) led the way with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals, while sophomore Ellie Kivell (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) added 14 points.
Campbell finished with 10 points, while junior Ja'Cole Tabor (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) pulled down a career-high nine boards.

"Ja'Cole Tabor in the last three or four games, since we started her in the post, has really given us a lift," said Scheve. "Her energy and enthusiasm has really picked us up."

Wilmington returns home 3 p.m. Saturday to face John Carroll.
