HIRAM, Ohio- The Wilmington College men's swimming team competed in a non-Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet against Hiram College Saturday afternoon. Despite having competed in a sprint meet the evening before, the Fightin' Quakers came out of the gate fresh this afternoon and were able to best Hiram, 106-93.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Alex Tillapaugh (Wilmington, OH/Wickenburg), juniors Cody Nash (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) and Lawrence Daya (North Canton, OH/Glen Oak), and sophomore Frederick Rankin (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) joined together for the first event of the afternoon, the 200-meter medley relay. The quartet finished first with a time of 1:55.09.

Stewart later dove in for the 50-meter freestyle where he blew away the competition by two seconds, earning first with a time of 24.65. Moments later he competed in the 100-meter freestyle, where he claimed first again-this time only by a margin of half a second-with a time of 55.35.

Rankin earned a first-place, individual finish, as well. He touched the wall in 2:33.04 in the 200-meter individual medley to beat out the competition.

Nash got his hand on the wall in 1:14.52 in the 100-meter breaststroke to earn first-place. Nash also claimed third-place in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:11.05. He finished just behind senior teammate David Bellus (Upper Marlboro, MD/Northmont) in the event. Bellus got to the wall in 2:10.46 for second-place.

Freshman Samuel Shanes (Wichita Falls, TX) claimed another first-place finish for the Fightin' Quakers; his in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:05.14.

Bellus placed second in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:06.74. He was followed by Tillapaugh who touched the wall in 1:07.10 for third.

- "We continued to make progress today. We were a little sluggish at the start, but as we got it together, we had some nice swims. Samuel Shanes had his first collegiate win today in the 800. He swam a great race to do it."
