MEMPHIS, TN - The Wilmington College men's basketball team went on a 19-0 run midway through the second half to post its first win of the season Sunday, throttling Huntingdon, 81-52, in the consolation game of the Rhodes Tip-Off Tournament.

Five different players found the scoresheet during the game-deciding run in which the Wilmington defense held the Hawks scoreless for almost eight minutes. Huntingdon was partially its own enemy committing 12 turnovers and missing three free throws during its futility streak.

In all, Huntingdon committed 34 turnovers and combined with a putrid 29 percent shooting mark (13-of-45) - the WC defense played a huge part in the victory. The sloppiness with the ball also helped negate the 18 offensive boards and the 51-29 advantage on the glass.

Sophomore Andrew Russell (Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) keyed an early run, scoring eight of nine points as Wilmington turned a one-point deficit into a five-point lead with less than nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Fightin' Quakers never trailed, and their lead grew to as much as 11 in the first half.

The Wilmington advantage hovered around the 10-point mark before the aforementioned run broke the game open.

Junior Christian Jones (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton) finished with a season-high 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. He added a team-high six boards and four assists. Russell finished with 17 points and two rebounds.

Junior D.J. Iles (Fayetteville, OH/Fayetteville Perry) continued his giving ways, distributing seven assists with just one turnover. Iles had 21 assists in the two-day event.

Wilmington (1-2 overall) returns to action 3 p.m. Sunday, hosting Berea in non-conference action.
