For the second consecutive year, junior Savannah Hooper was honored as the Wilmington College Female Athlete of the Year as the Wilmington College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its Fifth Annual WESPYs Tuesday in Boyd Theater.
Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) proved to be a standout player this year for the softball team. She led team in both runs scored (23) and hits (38), while also leading the team in hitting with a .325 batting average. Her 26 stolen bases lead the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Senior lacrosse player Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster) earned the WC Male Athlete of the Year after establishing a program record for the most goals (113) in a career. He led the OAC with 78 points, 11 points ahead of the closest player. His 78 points established a new WC seasonal record.
For the first time in award history, there was a pair of ties in the Jenna Parlette Award and the Judy Doyle Awards.
The Judy Doyle Award, named after the longtime athletics business manager, honors the four year season with the best career. Delaney was joined by women's basketball player Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) for the honor.
Jefferson was just the seventh women's basketball player in school history to be a three-time All-OAC selection. She finished her career with 1,158 points, while her 213 career steals are the second most in Wilmington College history.
Seniors Malcolm Pittman (Huber Heights, OH/Wayne) and Ja'Cole Tabor (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) tied to win the Jenna Parlette Award. In honor of deceased WC student athlete, Jenna Parlette, the award goes to the student-athlete typifies the qualities that made Parlette a revered member of the college community.
