WILMINGTON, Ohio- The Wilmington College women's swimming team's three seniors made their final swims in the Wilmington Natatorium against John Carroll University (JCU) on Saturday afternoon. The Fighitn' Quakers were unable to surpass JCU, the final score 113-84.
Samantha Glish, Savanna Burcham, and Susan Householder were honored before the meet began and figured into the scoring.
Glish led the senior contingent and the team by earning two, individual first-place finishes. Her times of 28.07 in the 50-meter freestyle and 1:02.54 in the 100-meter freestyle not only put her to the wall first in the field but were in-season bests, as well. Glish also swam a leg on the team's winning 200-meter freestyle relay. She was joined in the event by freshmen Hannah Davis, Macki Leon, and Margaret Hover. The quartet completed the event in 1:57.60.
Householder's top finish came in the 100-meter breaststroke, where she was able to claim third-place with a time of 1:36.73. She then joined forces with Burcham, Chloe Kresnak, and Rachel O'Donnell to form Wilmington's 'B' 200-meter freestyle relay. The group earned second-place with a time of 2:18.06.
In addition to her relay achievement, Burcham earned sixth-place in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:13.11.
Notable finishes outside of the senior class included: Leon's first-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke (1:11.09) and second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle (2:18.43), Alyssa Rogers' first-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:23.91), Rebecca Curran's second-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:30.43), Davis' third-place 100-butterfly (1:17.58), and O'Donnell's third-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle (11:12.94).
"We had a lot of good swims today," said Wilmington Head Swimming Coach Trip Breen. "But today was more about honoring and celebrating our seniors for their leadership and dedication to this team. Samantha Glish had a phenomenal meet, winning two events. We're looking to the next phase of our season now and are excited to start resting and getting ready for Ohio Athletic Conference Championships."
Wilmington heads to Akron, Ohio on February 15 to open the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championship meet.
