Women's Basketball Begins Final Homestand With Muskingum on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest against Muskingum University. 

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game 6-14 overall and 2-10 in conference competition after a 80-74 defeat at the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The Fighting Muskies are 9-10 overall and 4-8 in OAC games after an 80-71 win at Heidelberg University on Sunday.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Erin Eaton is in her third season as Muskingum's head coach.

The Players: Zahrya Bailey and Kennedy Lewis combine to score nearly 20 points and nine rebounds a game to lead Wilmington in both categories while Kenzie CampbellBrooke Davis and Haley Cook all score over half-a-dozen points per game. Cook also helps in the rebounding department to the tune of 4.4 per game. A trio of Muskies - Taylor DeMassimo, Caitlyn DeMassimo and Abby Jones - score in double figures with Taylor DeMassimo leading the way at 12.7 points per game. She alos grabs a team-best 5.8 boards per 40 minutes.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 57.9, Muskingum 68.4; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 63.6, Muskingum 70.6; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.5, Muskingum 40.2; three-point percentage – Wilmington 27.0, Muskingum 34.4; free throw percentage – Wilmington 64.6, Muskingum 71.7; rebounding margin per game – Wilmington -3.8, Muskingum -3.8; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.68, Muskingum 0.75.

Recent History: Wilmington is 42-7 against Muskingum since the 1994 season. The first meeting between the two this season was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, but the Quakers won a 72-57 contest in the OAC Tournament least season. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
