DELAWARE- The Wilmington College men's swimming team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University this weekend to participate in the two-day, three session, timed final Corbiere-Merion Invitational. At the conclusion of the first session, the Fightin' Quakers were solidly in third place with 262 points, only 15 points behind the second place team, but 128 points ahead of the third-place team. The Fightin' Quakers held their position through the second session, coming out of the first day, still, in third place with 427.5 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Session One

  • Junior Cody Nash (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) brought home the team's top, individual finish with his 1:03.48 in the 100-yard breaststroke. This time earned him third place. Nash also swam a leg on a third place finishing 'A' 200-yard medley relay (1:41.92).

  • Sophomore Andrew Haga (Gahanna, OH/Westerville South) was among the team's top finishes, earning fourth place, and achieving a personal best in the 100-yard butterfly (55.12). Haga also competed in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.72, 16th), and swam a leg on the Fightin' Quakers 'B' 200-yard medley relay (1:47.10, 7th).  

  • Senior Erik Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) also achieved a fourth place finish for the team, clocking in with a 1:49.35 in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore teammate Brendan Tirado (Dayton, OH/Oakwood) touched the wall close behind, earning sixth place with a time of 1:52.69.

  • Sophomore Andrew Stewart (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie) came in sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (56.60).

  • Freshman Freddie Snowden (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) clocked in at 1:03.99 for a season best and sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke.

  • E. Spraul, Tirado, senior David Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton), and Stewart came together to form the Fightin' Quakers 'A' 400-yard freestyle relay (3:17.66). In this relay, Stewart swam the fastest leg, splitting a 47.90. Not only was this the fastest leg of the relay, but it was also a season best split for Stewart.

Session Two

  • Nash, once again, brought home a top, individual finish, this time in the 200-yard breaststroke. He touched the wall fourth with a time of 2:19.08.

  • Another fourth place finish in this session came from Stewart in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.38. This time is his fastest flat-start time of the season.

  • The Fightin' Quakers brought home fifth and sixth place in the 200-yard butterfly. Haga touched the wall for fifth place in 2:06.91 and junior David Bellus  (Upper Marlboro, MD/Northmont) earned sixth with a time of 2:12.48.

  • Tirado also achieved a fifth place finish for the Fightin' Quakers. His occured in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.27).

  • D. Spraul rounded out the team's high, individual finishes this session with a fifth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.88).

  • Tirado, D. Spraul, Nash, and E. Spraul teamed up to form a fourth place winning 800-yard freestyle relay at the end of this session (7:35.54).

  • "We've had some amazing performances thus far in the meet: Andrew Stewart's 100 freestyles, Andrew Haga's 100 butterfly, Freddie Snowden's 200 [individual medley] and 100 breast. Everyone is stepping up and competing well. There's a lot of energy on the deck and we're excited about tomorrow."
