Slow start too much to overcome

The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team got off to a dreadful start and had its comeback attempt fall short as the Fightin' Quakers lost to Hanover Wednesday, 14-11, in non-conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hanover scored the game's first seven goals, and led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The first period could have been worse, but the Fightin' Quakers didn't allow Hanover to score on either man-up opportunity. Wilmington was just 2-for- 8 in face-offs in the period.
  • Four of Wilmington's failed clear attempts happened in the first period.
  • Wilmington scored six of the game's last eight goals.
  • Senior Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley) led the team with three goals, three assists and 10 groundballs, while senior Alexander Gossard (Galloway, OH/Hilliard Bradley) finished with three goals and one assist.
  • Junior Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster) added two goals and one assist, while junior Chris Hein (McKinney, TX/McKinney) tallied two goals.
