The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team played league-leading Mount Union even for a half, but couldn't overcome a slow start in their 10-6 loss in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Williams Stadium.

Mount Union scored the only goal in the first period and then tallied the first four of the second period before Wilmington found the back of the net. Junior Chris Hein (McKinney, TX/McKinney) netted WC's first goal of the game, scoring with 1:29 remaining in the first half.

The deficit could have been greater if not for the play of junior goalkeeper Paul Koerbel (Maineville, OH/Kings). He finished with contest with 12 saves on 22 shots.

Sophomore Matt Dugan (Hilliard, OH/Davidson) scored Wilmington's only goal in the third period as the Fightin' Quakers were outscored 3-1, and trailed 8-2 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Seniors Alexander Gossard (Galloway, OH/Hilliard Bradley) and Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley) each scored and assisted on goals as Wilmington scored three of the first four markers in the fourth period. With Wilmington pulling to within four with 5:51 remaining, the Fightin' Quakers had a couple chances to pull closer. However, Mount Union stemmed the tide on a goal with 2:21 remaining.

Junior Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster) tallied the game's final goal, a short-handed tally, with 1:53 left. It was as close as Wilmington could get.

Hein and Delaney each scored twice and an assisted on another to lead Wilmington.

Wilmington honored their nine seniors – Jesse Buhrman (Westlake, OH/Westlake), Camden Doherty (Westerville, OH/South), Austin Johnston (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Bradley), Zach Swenson (Milford, OH/Milford), Alex Barton (Galloway, OH/Hilliard Bradley), Ethan Zimpfer (Botkins, OH/Botkins), Garyk Todd (Pickerington, OH/Central), Gossard and Jackson – prior to the start of the game.

Wilmington (4-6 overall, 0-3 OAC) travels to Capital 7 p.m. Wednesday for an Ohio Athletic Conference game.
