WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team begins the 2020-21 season with a two-game series against Ohio Northern University (ONU) this weekend.

The Schedule: Wilmington will host ONU for a 7 p.m. contest at Hermann Court on Friday, Jan. 22 and travel to Ada for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 23.

The Teams: Wilmington and ONU The Fightin' Quakers finished the 2019-20 season with a 10-16 overall record including an 8-10 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition. WC made another appearance in the OAC Tournament where it narrowly fell on the road to Marietta College. The Polar Bears completed last season with a 9-16 overall record and a 5-13 mark in conference competition.

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt is in his 14th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Rich Bensman enters his ninth season with the ONU program including his fifth as head coach. The Polar Bears made the OAC Tournament finals in the 2017-18 campaign.

The Players: Wilmington returns its leading scorer from a season ago in First Team All-OAC selection Jeffery Mansfield. The junior from Wilmington averaged nearly 20 points per game in 2019-20 and was one of four Quakers to grab over four rebounds per game. The Quakers will need to replace the other three individuals who scored over 10 points per game. ONU returns its top two scores from a season ago including C.J. Napier (16.3 PPG) and Brandon Waugh (10.6 PPG).

Tale of the Tape (2019-20): Points per game – Wilmington 76.0, ONU 68.2; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 79.4, ONU 75.3 field goal percentage – Wilmington 43.9, ONU 41.3; three-point percentage – Wilmington 31.3, ONU 32.5; free throw percentage – Wilmington 68.8, ONU 72.5; rebounds per game – Wilmington 31.1, ONU 34.9; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 1.10, ONU, 0.76.

Recent History: Wilmington is 15-25 against Ohio Northern since becoming a member of NCAA Division III in the early 1990s. The Quakers are riding a 5-game winning streak, however, defeating the Polar Bears by 15-plus point in four of those five meetings. COVID-19 Precautions: The OAC Presidents made the difficult decision to not allow any fans at athletic contests until at least March 1.
