Steffen leads women's team at Queen City

MASON, OH – The Wilmington College cross country teams participated in the Queen City Invitational Friday at Kingswood Park with both teams finishing third of seven Division III teams. Overall, the men's team placed 14th of 24 teams, while the women's team was 12th of 20 teams.

"I was happy with where our teams placed," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "The times were significantly slower that last week, but some of the conditions with temperatures being in the 90's."

Senior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) was the top women's runner, placing 48th with the time of 20:21.32. Freshman Christina Paskow (Felicity, OH/Felicity-Franklin) was the second Wilmington runner, and 77th overall, to cross the finish line with the time of 21:46.85.

Freshman Kylie Watson (Georgetown, OH/Georgetown) placed 83rd with the time of 22:24.35, while senior Veronica Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) was 87th in 22:34.98. Junior Mary Krebs (Kettering, OH/Alter) rounded out the Wilmington scoring with a 92nd place finish in the time of 22:56.50.

The top five men's scorers all finished less than 45 seconds of each other and within 18 places of each other with junior Tommy Looby (Canton, OH/Glen Oak) leading the way. Looby was 80th with the time of 17:14.19, while freshman Hunter Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) was 84th in the time of 17:25.37.

Rounding out the Wilmington scoring was senior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) 85th in 17:25.73, senior Scott Blubaugh (Kingston, OH/Logan Elm) was 96th with the time of 17:49.64 and freshman Griffin Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) was 98th in 17:53.18.

After a week off, Wilmington returns to the course on September 20 at the Wheaton College Invitational.
