Quakers unable to score at All-Ohio

CEDARVILLE – With the Wilmington College women's cross country down to four members due to various ailments, the Quakers weren't able to officially score at the 2013 All-Ohio Cross Country championships at Cedarville University Friday.

Junior Tricia Steffen finished 28th in the Division III race to lead Wilmington. She was the 10th Ohio Athletic Conference runner to finish the race. With one month remaining until the OAC meet, Steffen could be right in the battle for first team honors as the top nine harriers earn the distinction.

"Tricia was more aggressive today, and was able to hang on," said head coach Ron Combs. "She ran a great race today."

Despite being in the difficult portion of their training schedules, Steffen was able to trim 15 seconds off her time at this course two weeks ago.

"We are really in the tough part of our training," said Combs. "We usually go into the All-Ohio meet flat. We have more aggressive work outs in preparation for the OAC's. I am looking forward to big improvements out of the team in general."

Freshman Sidney DuBois was the second runner to finish with a time of 28:13.73, good for 104th place. Junior Victoria Burnam was four places later with the time of 28:40.09. The final Wilmington runner was sophomore Sarah Murphy, who finished 115th in 29:03.06.

Wilmington returns to the course next week at the Benedictine Invitational in Naperville, IL.
