Volleyball Looks for First Win of Season Versus Marietta on Friday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play for the 2021 spring season on Friday when Marietta College comes to Fred Raizk Arena for a pair of matches beginning at 6 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Fightin' Quakers are in search of their first win after a pair of straight-set losses at Ohio Northern University on Tuesday. The Pioneers are 3-5 on the season after sweeping Capital University on Tuesday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his second season leading the program in the spring of 2021. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Kristy Newman is in her third season as Marietta's head coach. She's the 12th coach in program history.

The Players: A quartet of Quakers – Victoria Long, Rachel Kennedy, Sofia Thomas and Sydney Geibel – all average over a kill per set while Thomas and McKenzie Stringer combine to dish out over six assists per set. Libero Karley Schlensker is the team's leader in digs, averaging 3.22 per set. A quartet of Pioneers – Maggie Fellers, Sam Ritenour, Becca Phillips and Maris Kaiser – all put down between 2-3 kills per set. Maddie Nader dishes out over nine assists per set.

1,000 Career Digs: Earlier this month, Karley Schlensker crossed the 1,000 career digs plateau.

Series History: Since the 2008 season, Wilmington is winless against Marietta in 13 matches. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
