Volleyball falls to Lions in four

After winning the first set, the Wilmington College volleyball team couldn't recapture the magic as they fell to Mount St. Joseph Wednesday, 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20), in non-conference action at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.

Junior Emily Oberschlake (West College Corner, IN/Union County) was the catalyst in WC's set victory as the Quakers tallied seven points on her serve. Wilmington trailed by four 21-18, before making a charge. Back-to-back kills by senior McKenzie Kilburn (Huber Heights, OH/Wayne) and a kill by freshman Hannah Kockentiet (Alpha, OH/Dayton Christian) helped Wilmington stave off defeat, and put it on the verge of victory.

Victory was clinched on an attack error.

Wilmington struggled in the second set with a hitting percentage of -0.48, recording six kills with seven errors on 21 attacks. The Fightin' Quakers couldn't break through in the third set, but battled in the fourth.

The fourth set was tight throughout, and Wilmington trailed by just one point, 18-17. However, Mount St. Joseph scored seven of the final 10 points to seal the victory.

Senior Tabby Biegler (Columbus, OH/Briggs) led the team with 14 kills on 31 attempts and a team-high 17 digs. Senior Ashley Miller (Arcanum, OH/Franklin Monroe) added six kills, two block assists and a block solo.

Junior Ariana Neff (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) dished out a team-high 22 assists with three digs.

Wilmington (2-12) hosts Berea 7 p.m. September 24 in non-conference action.
