Volleyball surpasses 2013 win total

RICHMOND, IN - The Wilmington College volleyball team surpassed its win total from a season ago, going 1-3 at the Earlham Invitational this past weekend.

The Fightin' Quakers (2-6) started the second day of the tournament with a thrilling comeback five-set match, 22-25, 25-22, 14-25, 28-26, 15-13.  Wilmington fell to Franklin (25-10, 25-15, 25-13) and Trinity International (25-8, 25-12, 25-16) in straight sets on Saturday, and fell in five to Earlham (20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 16-14) after winning the first two sets Sunday.

Senior Ashley Miller (Arcanum, OH/Franklin Monroe) led the team with 10 kills and six block solos and one block assist in Wilmington's victory. Sophomore Catlin Pauley (Kenton, OH/Riverdale) added eight kills, two block solos and two block assists. Junior Ariana Neff (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) distributed 25 of the team's 30 assists.

Junior Emily Oberschlake (West College Corner, IN/Union County) added a team-high 19 digs.

Junior Tabby Biegler (Columbus, OH/Briggs) came up big against Earlham in Sunday's second game, finishing with a career-high 18 kills and seven digs. Neff tallied 34 assists, while Oberschlake recorded 18 digs and freshman Kaleigh Trevino (Vandalia, OH/Butler) added 13 digs.

Miller had a team-high eight kills, six assists, two block assists and a solo block in Wilmington's loss to Franklin. Neff finished with 14 assists and Oberschlake with 19 digs. Freshman Becca Harting (Hamersville, OH/Valley View) had a 15 digs and Biegler finished with 12.

In the straight set loss to Trinity International, Miller finished with five of the team's 12 kills, while Neff tallied five of the team's six assists.

Oberschlake finished with a career-high 24 digs and Harting had a career-high 16 digs.

Wilmington will have its home debut 7 p.m. Wednesday, hosting Franklin at Fred Raizk Arena.
