Steffen sets new mile record

BEXLEY – The Wilmington College women's track and field team finished fourth in the Capital Classic in preparation for next week's Ohio Athletic Conference meet.

"Today was a really good tune-up for both teams," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "Everyone male and female got after it today.  I am really proud of the kids. It's been a difficult winter and the kids have had to persevere, but they are really showing some signs of life now. We are definitely hitting our stride coming into the OAC Meet next weekend at Mount Union."

The Fightin' Quakers picked up three event victories in the meet. Junior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) set a new record in the mile with a time of 5:17.54. She added a fourth place finished in the 800 (2:29.03).

"That's just a great run for Tricia, it was nearly a 9 second personal best in that event," said Combs.

Sophomore Jadie Riewoldt (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) won the high jump (1.53), while sophomore Kelsie Redway (Toledo, OH/Whitmer) was second (1.48).

The quartet of junior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem), sophomore Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City), freshman Hannah Rolf (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) and Dorsett won the 4x200 (1:53.18).

Murphy also scored in the 200 (4th, 27.81) and the 60 hurdles (7th, 9.74). Freshman Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Mifflin) qualified for the league meet in the 60 (8.4) and 200 (28.11) Saturday. Rolf placed third in the pole vault (3.04 meters) and sophomore Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) finished second in the shot put (12.23).
