Riewoldt scores only WC points

WESTERVILLE – Three school records fell Saturday as the Wilmington College track and field teams competed at the All-Ohio meet at Otterbein College. The men's team finished ninth of 18 teams, while the women's team was 18th of 18.

"We haven't been in the top 10 for a few years on the men's side, so this is a pretty good result for us," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "I still think we are a team on the men's side of things that can surprise at the conference meet."

Sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) established records in both the 60 and the 200 meter runs.  Duncan finished second in the 200 (22.30) and was eighth in the 60 (7.12). Senior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Southeastern) tallied the other school record, finishing fourth in the 3000 (8:53.38).

The distance medley relay team of senior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville), senior Tony Goodrich (Bethel, OH/New Richmond), junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) and freshman Ethan Rudd (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) finished second in the time of 10:32.39.

"Jeremy Duncan and Jake Simpkins had great meets," said Combs. "Jeremy broke two school records and Jake ran a great anchor on the DMR, running a 4:23 mile and then followed that with a strong 1:58 to get fourth in the 800. That was the best double of his career so far."

Sophomore Jadie Riewoldt (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) scored the only points on the women's side, finishing fifth in the high jump (1.53 meters).

"Jadie had her best jump of the year jump of the year in the high jump," said Combs. "She is making good progress in the high jump. We only had four women make the cut to compete, so obviously we had very few chances to score for the women.  We will be back on the women's side, but it's going to take some time.  I like the spirit of our team they are competing hard."

Wilmington returns to the track 4 p.m. Friday at the Buckeye Tuneup.
