Geers sets school record in 200 IM

AKRON – Senior Jenny Geers established a new school record on the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference championships Thursday at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron. The Fightin' Quakers are sixth after day one.

Geers (Pickerington, OH/North) finished 11th in the 200 Individual Medley with the time of 2:17.25. She cut almost four seconds off her time in the morning prelims.

"It was just an incredible swim," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "She dropped eight seconds off her in-season best."

Freshman Samantha Glish (Louisville, KY/Ballard), who got a slow start due to playing women's soccer, scored in the 50 freestyle (25.77). Breen felt she competed well in a fast event.

Senior Caroline Kruczynski (Grove City, OH/Central Crossing), junior Colleen Rueppel (Weybridge, VT / Manheim (PA)), junior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) and Glish placed sixth in the 200 freestyle relay, while Kruczynski, Routzong, senior Addie Roberts (Franklin, OH/Franklin) and junior Rachel Drake (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) placed fifth in the 400 medley relay.

"Across the board, we had big drops on the women's team," said Breen. "We have trained hard all year, we rested for this meet, and we put together some nice swims."

Day two prelims begin at 10 a.m. from the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
