Routzong, Kruczynski win events in JCU loss

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Wilmington College women's swimming team won two events Saturday and fell to John Carroll Saturday, 144-114, in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

"They stepped up and swam well today," said Wilmington head coach Trip Been. "We went on a three and half hour bus ride, warmed up and were ready to go."

Junior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) won the 200 butterfly (2:41.13), while senior Caroline Kruczynski (Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) was victorious in the 200 backstroke (2:17.48).

"Caroline had a nice 200 backstroke," said Breen. "It's a great event for her, and is going to be a great race for her at the conference meet."

Battling sickness all week, senior Addie Roberts (Franklin, OH/Franklin) "showed great senior leadership" competing in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. She finished third in the 1000 (11:42.25) and swam the second fastest time in the 500 (5:41.25).

The quartet of Kruczynski, Routzong, Rachel Drake (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) and Jenny Geers (Pickerington, OH/North) was third in the 200 medley relay (2:04.15). Geers added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:07.50) and swam the second fastest time in the 200 individual medley (2:26.83). Drake recorded a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.22).

The Fightin' Quakers wrap up the season at the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference championships, starting February 19.
