Women's swimming loses to Witt, Transy

SPRINGFIELD, OH – The Wilmington College women's swimming team lost both ends of their double duals Saturday. The Fightin' Quakers lost to Wittenberg, 193-74, and to Transylvania, 177-80.

"The women swam against possibly the best team they will swim against all season in Wittenberg," said WC head coach Trip Breen. "Things are getting better every week. Our seniors are starting to emerge for us."

After struggling to a fifth place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:06.63), Victoria Burcham (Urbana, OH/Urbana) rebounded with solid wins in the 200 backstroke (2:23.60) and the 200 individual medley (2:30.21).

"Victoria put together a nice 200 backstroke," said Breen. "It was great to see her mentally erase her 100."

He added it showed Burcham's leadership in her ability to have two good swims after a less than stellar swim.

Breen also thought Liz Miller (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon) put together two good swims, turning in her best in-season 500 freestyle time (5:47.82).

Wilmington returns to the pool November 23 and 24 at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational.
