Women's soccer shutout by Tigers

The Wilmington College women's soccer team allowed three second-half goals in falling to Wittenberg Wednesday, 4-0, in non-conference action at Williams Stadium. It marks the third straight game the Fightin' Quakers have failed to score.

"We started slow, and we allowed an early goal – which was disappointing," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "I thought we battled back and competed. In the second half, we put some pressure on them, but after the second goal we gave up a little bit."

Wittenberg scored the only goal of the first half in the ninth minute as a ball was played from the wing across the goal box and put into the back of the net. The Tigers added goals in the 56th, 62nd and 85th minutes to round out the scoring.

Despite not being able to tally a goal in the early part of the season, Spirk is seeing some improvements up top.

"We are going to goal more and we are creating chances," said Spirk. "Once we get a goal, things will start happening."

Senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) faced five shots, allowing all four goals.

Sophomore Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg-Clay) recorded seven of Wilmington's 12 shots, placing one on frame. Senior Camille Gentile (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) finished with two shots on goal.

Wilmington (0-3) hosts Bluffton 2 p.m. Saturday in non-conference action.
