The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team fell to Franciscan Saturday, 17-11, in non-conference action at Williams Stadium.

Franciscan took control of the game by scoring eight of the final 10 first-half goals to take a five-goal lead (9-4) into half.

"We played against a good team who took advantage of some of our weaknesses," said Wilmington head coach Brett Yenger. "Katie Bennett really kept us in the game, and we had players who wanted to score. We are just missing some key components to put it all together for a win. A few mental lapses caused us to go into a hole early and just kept fighting to get out. But, we kept fighting, and that's what's important, going into next week."

Wilmington took an early lead with an unassisted goal by sophomore Kiki Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) and a goal by freshman Jenni Caporale (Louisville, KY/Ballard), which was assisted by junior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana). It was the last Wilmington lead as the Barons tallied five unanswered goals.

Caporale and Hall combined to break Franciscan scoring string with a pair of goals as Hall assisted Caporale on both. However, the Barons retaliated with a pair of goals to end the half.

The Fightin' Quakers pulled to within four goals twice in the second half, the last time coming with 2:40 left in the contest. But, they couldn't quite get over the hump.

Caporale led the team with four goals on 15 shots, while Hall added two goals and two assists. Hall added a team-high seven draws controls and four groundballs. Routzong tallied a goal and an assist with four groundballs and four draw controls.

Junior Abby Jude (Lancaster, OH/Fairfield Union) had a team-high six groundballs and a goal.

Junior Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) registered 10 saves in taking the loss (2-4).
