Charity Shears enters her first season as an assistant basketball coach at Wilmington College in 2023-24.
Shears comes to Wilmington from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she played her final season of collegiate women's basketball. Shears started 27-of-31 games as an Explorer and averaged seven points per game as one of the team's best three-point shooters.
Before La Salle, Shears was a four-year member of the women's basketball program at West Virginia State University and earned All-Mount East Conference honors her last year two years. A Second Team All-American, she averaged nearly 13 points per game and made one of every three triple attempts. Shears scored over 1,000 career points and holds the conference record for both career three-pointers and points in a single game.
A native of Ashland, Kentucky, Shears helped her team to regional titles at Boyd County High School including an appearance in the state semifinals as a senior. She earned a bachelor's degree in sport studies from West Virginia State and a master's degree in strategic communications from La Salle.
She resides in Wilmington.
