Clutter, Trautman record RBI as @FightinQuakerSB swept by BW

BEREA – The Wilmington College softball team managed two runs in two games in falling to Baldwin Wallace Saturday in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games at the Cuyahoga Fairgrounds. Wilmington dropped to 5-23 overall, 1-9 in the OAC.

The Fightin' Quakers return to action 1 p.m. Sunday to face Muskingum in another OAC doubleheader.

GAME ONE: BALDWIN WALLACE 5, WILMINGTON 1

Sophomore Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) recorded two of Wilmington's six hits and drove in the lone run, a double in the sixth inning, in Wilmington's loss.

Freshman Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) had a one-out bunt single, and stole second to set up the run. Trautman doubled down the right field line to score Hooper, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

BW scored in four of its six at-bats, tallying five runs on 14 hits.

Seniors Allie Noggle (Ashville, OH/Teays Valley) and Jess Clutter (Englewood, OH/Northmont), along with junior Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland) had hits for Wilmington.

Freshman Beth Persicano (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) allowed five earned runs on 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.

GAME TWO: BALDWIN WALLACE 4, WILMINGTON 1

The Yellow Jackets hit a pair of two-run homeruns in completing the sweep of the Fightin' Quakers Saturday.

Clutter's RBI single in the sixth inning brought home Wilmington's lone run, while junior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) went 2-for-3 in the loss. It's the sixth straight game for Clutter with a hit. Hooper stole her 12th base of the season, and now has a stolen base in three straight games.

Hooper, Trautman and freshman Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) all had hits for Wilmington.

Freshman Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work to take the loss. Clutter allowed two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout in four innings of relief.
