The Wilmington College softball team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games Monday, losing to Capital 11-6 in the opener and 9-1 in the second game. Wilmington falls to 5-21 overall, 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Fightin' Quakers return to action with an OAC doubleheader 3 p.m. Wednesday at Muskingum. It kicks off a six-game road swing for WC. Wilmington travels to Baldwin Wallace 1 p.m. Saturday and to Transylvania 1 p.m. Sunday.

GAME ONE: CAPITAL 11, WILMINGTON 6

Junior Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland) had a career-high four hits and went 4-for-4 with two RBI, but the Fightin' Quakers fell to the Crusaders, 11-6.

Capital did the bulk of its damage with a six-run second inning, the big blows being a bases loaded double and a two-run home run.

After following behind 7-1, Wilmington fought back. Freshman Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) and Stewart reached to start the second, and Edwards scored as junior Hillary Daria-White (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) reached on an error. Junior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) walked to load the bases. However, the threat fizzled without WC denting the plate.

Stewart brought home two more runs with a one-out single in the third inning, and senior Allie Noggle (Ashville, OH/Teays Valley) registered an RBI groundout in the fourth to pull to within 7-5. However, Wilmington couldn't get any closer as the Crusaders tacked on two runs in each the sixth and seventh innings.

Senior Jess Clutter (Englewood, OH/Northmont) went 2-for-4, and sophomore Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) scored twice.

Freshman Beth Persicano (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits in seven innings of work.

GAME TWO: CAPITAL 9, WILMINGTON 1

Clutter recorded one of Wilmington's three hits and the only RBI as the Fightin' Quakers fell 9-1 in the second game of the doubleheader. She brought home WC's lone run scoring freshman Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) with a third inning double.

Sophomore Sydney Kelly (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) and freshman Chandler Fields (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) had the other two hits.

Freshman Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) allowed nine runs (eight earned) in 4 2/3 innings of work in her season debut.
